Jimmy Johnson
Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety
Jimmy Johnson was appointed Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety in April 2018. In this role, Johnson oversees the Emergency Management, Fire Prevention Services and Environmental Health and Safety departments. Safety planning, training, and education are primary responsibilities for this role. He has been with the university since 2008 and has more than two decades of public safety experience with emergency operations, emergency planning, fire prevention, and public safety outreach. The Campus Safety office fosters a secure environment for the university’s academic and research enterprise. Emergency planning and routine safety operations are at the forefront for the departments in this area of the Financial and Administrative Services (FAS) portfolio.
Jonathan Robb
Director, Office of Emergency Management
Jonathan Robb is the Director of the Office of Emergency Management. He has been with The University of Texas since 2015 and has served as a Fire Safety Inspector, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, and Assistant Director of Emergency Preparedness. Previously, he worked for the City of Findlay, Ohio Fire Department for eight years as a professional firefighter/emergency medical technician. Jonathan is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Findlay, and a master’s degree in Emergency and Disaster Management from Georgetown University.
Waymon Jackson
Director, Fire Prevention Services
Fire Marshal
Waymon Jackson serves as the Director of Fire Prevention Services and Fire Marshal. Licensed by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers as a fire protection engineer, Jackson brings more than 30 years of experience in life safety and fire protection to his position. He joined the university as the supervisor of the Fire Safety Systems Shop, and previously worked for a variety of distinguished firms, including Westinghouse Electric, Grinnell Fire Protection Systems, Wormald Fire Systems, Bechtel Savannah River, Carter & Burgess, and Schirmer Engineering. Jackson holds numerous professional affiliations that include National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Principal, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code (NFPA 72), and Emergency Communications Systems (Chapter 24), to name a few.
John Salsman
Director of Environmental Health and Safety
John joined the university in July 2013 as the Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). He has responsibility for health and safety programs at the campus. The mission of EHS is to promote healthy and safe operations on campus, to protect students, faculty, staff and visitors, and to ensure protection of the environment. Prior to joining the University of Texas at Austin, John was at Texas A&M University from 2000–2013, serving as the Director of EHS since 2006. Previously he was a Project Manager for URS Corporation and Emergency Planning Manager at Comanche Peak nuclear power station. John earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Radiation Protection Engineering in 1981 and a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering in 1983 from Texas A&M University. He is a Certified Health Physicist.
